Warren Averett’s Steven Barranco Elected as Chair of the Board of the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy

Barranco, CPA, was recently elected as Board Chair of the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy (ASBPA). Barranco was originally appointed to the Board by Governor Robert Bentley in February of 2017, and later confirmed by the Alabama Senate.

Barranco joined the Firm in 1989 and serves as a Member of the Healthcare Advisory Team in the Montgomery office. He serves clients in several industries, including medical and dental practices, healthcare facilities, government contractors, professional services, distribution, natural resources, hospitality and nonprofit.

Barranco is past President of both the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants and its Educational Foundation. He has also been involved in the Montgomery community having served on several nonprofit, charitable and professional boards.

The ASBPA is responsible for regulation of the public accounting profession in Alabama.  The Board’s functions include licensure, registration and discipline over Certified Public Accountants, Public Accountants, and Public Accounting Firms in Alabama.  The ASBPA is comprised of seven board members, each serving a four-year term.

“I’m looking forward to serving as Chair of the Board of the ASBPA,” says Barranco. “The Board’s purpose is to protect the public as it relates to Public Accounting, and we take this very seriously.”
