We can’t think of a better way to celebrate 50 years than by completing 50 acts of service in our communities!

Supporting our local communities has always been a part of the firm’s core identity, so Warren Averett is setting out to conduct 50 Acts of Service in our 50th year. Throughout 2022, team members throughout the firm will coordinate and execute service projects that support important local causes and that will make a difference in the 13 cities where a Warren Averett office is physically located. With our hundreds of passionate team members and countless worthy organizations to serve in our areas, we’re excited to extend our celebration beyond our office walls and into the communities we love.

We hope you’ll follow along on our journey to complete 50 acts of service this year!

During the Holiday season, the Atlanta office hosted a toy drive for Marine Toys for Tots. The Toys for Tots program is run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy gifts for Christmas.

Tampa team members spent the afternoon stuffing holiday bags for the homebound elderly around Tampa. Towards the end of December, the goodies were hand-delivered throughout the community.

Team members in Anniston fed the homeless and low-income families of Calhoun County and prepared hot lunch plates for them at the Soup Bowl.

Employees of the Montgomery office purchased and wrapped presents for eight families (30 individuals). The gifts were then delivered to the Family Sunshine Center and distributed to the families to give them a brighter Christmas.

Team members in the Foley office sponsored two Christmas Angels through Ecumenical Ministries. Team members provided financial donations and shopped for gifts.

The Montgomery office packed 100 chemo bags for cancer patients in Central Alabama. Patients receive these bags on their first chemo appointment, and the bags included several comfort items such as warm blankets, fuzzy socks, hand lotions, puzzle books and more.

The Warren Averett Help Desk Team volunteered and assisted with gift distribution at the Salvation Army Angel Tree warehouse.

The Tampa office collected gift cards for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. The gift cards will be used to provide holiday meals for families in need.

The Mobile Office sponsored four children through Salvation Army’s Angel Tree. This program provides sponsors with the wish lists of children in need who would not otherwise receive holiday gifts.

Team members in the Birmingham office held a canned food and fund drive benefiting the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama. The office competed and donated for either Alabama or Auburn, based on their favorite football team. It was neck and neck most of the month of November, but Alabama ultimately won with a final day surge. They donated close to 1,000 pounds of canned goods and an additional $500 of monetary donations! All in all, 2,750 meals were provided to the community.

For the second time this year, Atlanta team members participated in a volunteer event with Junior Achievement. They worked with eighth grade students at the JA of Georgia Finance Park at the Gwinnet Discovery Center. The program is designed to teach students the importance of financial literacy as they spend the day learning about the impact of life and financial decisions.

Team members in the Montgomery office collected money and pet treats for donations to the Montgomery Humane Society.

About 90 of the firm’s Members recently volunteered at Birmingham’s Firehouse Shelter, a homeless shelter for men. Members worked on projects around the shelter, including window washing, food preparation, painting, repair projects (including putting in new doors) and putting up holiday decorations.

The Children’s Dream Fund held its fifth annual Clays for Kids shoot. Some of the Tampa team spent the day volunteering and helped out with registration, swag bags, raffle sales and breakfast.

Open Books & The Prison Book Project is an all-volunteer bookstore and nonprofit organization providing books to incarcerated individuals. These individuals send letters to the project and request books on various topics, with the two most requested books being dictionaries and thesauri. Team members in the Pensacola office donated money to purchase the books, delivered the books to the project, and then worked for a few hours going through the letters and packing books for shipment.

Headquartered in Atlanta, Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelters is a nonprofit that operates the largest cage-free, no-kill shelter in the Southeast for rescued cats and dogs. A group from the Atlanta office helped walk and bathe dogs, clean kennels and transportation crates and play/cuddle with all the dogs and puppies!

The Birmingham Healthcare team played bingo with the residents of Cahaba Ridge Retirement Community. It was a packed house of ladies who adored Maddox serving as the caller.

Anniston team members participated in back-to-school shopping for underprivileged children, which is an annual event sponsored by the Anniston office in partnership with Martin’s Family Clothing. This event ensures that over 80 children are able to start the school year with all new supplies and clothing.

The Pensacola office helped the Humane Society of Pensacola, where they cleaned cages and the animal playground and prepared for the opening of the new doggy area.

The Montgomery office and the Red Cross hosted a blood drive, and 11 employees gave blood.

Some of our Cullman team members counted school supplies donated through the “Stuff the Bus” campaign through United Way of Cullman County.

Team members in the Destin and Fort Walton Beach offices hosted blood drives with OneBlood and together collected 26 pints of blood. One pint alone can save three separate local hospital patients!

Some of the firm’s Birmingham team bought back-to-school supplies for the Pencil Box event at Avondale Samaritan Place. These supplies were for elementary school students attending four Birmingham City public schools. Each student was given “ASP money” to buy the items they needed, which provided a learning opportunity for the students while also giving them the tools they need to have a successful school year.

The Tampa team also collected school supplies for their local YMCA. The YMCA will stuff backpacks and distribute them to kids in need in the Tampa area. The team donated 395 items.

The firm’s Tampa office volunteered at Feeding Tampa Bay, where they sorted almost 4,500 pounds of food that will provide roughly 3,700 meals to the community. Feeding Tampa Bay is leading the movement to end hunger in the Tampa Bay community.

Grady Health Systems and the Atlanta Community Food

Atlanta team members sorted and distributed sweet potatoes, potatoes, bananas, dates and watermelons at a Grady Fresh Food Cart site. This event was organized by Grady Health Systems and the Atlanta Community Food Bank. The fresh food was distributed to the Grady Clinic’s patients.

#30 | Employees from the Montgomery office volunteered at the Caring Center to clean The Master’s Garden, a community resource that provides produce to other community organizations. They pulled weeds, cleared away plants that were no longer producing and spread pine straw.

#31 | Volunteers from the Montgomery office worked at the Caring Center where they sorted and hung clothing donations. The Caring Center provides food, clothing, household items, furniture and financial assistance to those in need.

Members of Birmingham’s Healthcare Team spent a Saturday morning picking up trash in Birmingham’s Highland Park community.

The Pensacola office stuffed 113 backpacks with donated school supplies for the Gulf Coast Kid’s House. Over 50 packs of paper, 20 notebooks and other miscellaneous supplies were donated.

The Mobile office partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America to raise money for their annual Back-to-School Supplies Drive.

The Montgomery team hosted a food drive for the Montgomery Area Food Bank who helps combat hunger and food insecurity in 35 of Alabama’s 67 counties. Nonperishable food and monetary donations were made.

The Huntsville office delivered supplies to the residents of 305 8th Street, a faith-based nonprofit that provides services for adults with diverse disabilities. The donations are for the daily needs of the residents.

To help MedShare, a humanitarian aid organization, the Atlanta team examined medical supplies for expired items and sorted the supplies into like categories for future boxing and distribution.

The Foley and Pensacola offices held a non-perishable food drive to benefit the Blessing Box at Foley United Methodist Church. People in need in the Foley area can collect food from the Blessing Box, which is restocked daily. On Friday, team members shopped for additional food items, using the monetary donations collected during the week and dropped them off at the church.

The Foley and Pensacola offices participated in a school supply drive hosted by Baldwin EMC and The Wharf that benefits Project R.E.A.C.H. (Resources for Educational Advancement of Children). They collected supplies and monetary donations all week. On Friday, team members went shopping for additional supplies and dropped everything off at the local Baldwin EMC office in Summerdale.

The firm’s Birmingham team helped the Firehouse Ministries and Shelter clean out and organize the pantry and freezer, restock them with donations and serve lunch to the city’s homeless.

During Warren Averett’s Spirit Week, our Atlanta Office hosted a week-long food drive for The Community Assistance Center (CAC) of Sandy Springs. The CAC helps residents of Sandy Springs and Dunwoody meet the basic needs of food, shelter and clothing during emergency situations.

The Huntsville office collected donations in the form of clothes, supplies, gift cards and money for the North Alabama Foster Closet. Team members filled up two cars with items and delivered them to their headquarters in Harvest, Alabama. All resources are available free of charge to qualified families.

Warren Averett’s Animal Advocacy’s Group Gulf Coast leaders and the Fort Walton Beach office teamed up to host a Puppy Petting Pawty that benefited Saving with Soul Pet Rescue. For a donation to the rescue, team members spent the afternoon with 10 puppies! They helped socialize 10 of the rescue’s fostered puppies and learned more about what the rescue does in the community. The team also raised $230 to go towards the next spay/neuter transport to stop more unwanted litters and collected some wish-list items for the rescue.

The Panama City Beach office participated in a beach clean-up. Fourteen people picked up 47.42 pounds of trash at the M.B. Miller pier. One of the firm’s team members picked up the most trash (5.9 pounds).

Team members in the Tampa office stuffed 300 hurricane packs for Meals on Wheels Tampa, which serves homebound individuals in the Tampa Bay area. The packs included bottled water, five days of shelf-stable food, a mask and emergency informational pamphlets.

The Foley and Fort Walton Beach offices played and sponsored a hole at the annual Alayna Brianne Bowman Memorial Golf Tournament. The Alayna Brianne Bowman Memorial Scholarship Foundation was founded after the death of Alayna Bowman, a rising high school senior. The foundation has donated over $70,000 to support local high school seniors and help them pursue their dreams of college education.

The firm’s Anniston team volunteered to serve their area’s homeless and low-income families with meals at the Anniston Soup Bowl.

Fort Walton Beach and Foley team members got together to sponsor the Community Association Institute’s North Gulf Coast Chapter’s Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Indian Bayou Golf Club in Destin. Funds raised were donated to Children in Crisis, Inc.

At the end of May, the Birmingham office collected donations of various food items (totaling over $2,500) for the Parker High School Football Team. Many of these young men have breakfast and lunch at school during the academic year, and team members provided lunch before football practice during the summer. They made their first delivery of food and supplies on June 6^th and are making weekly deliveries throughout the summer.

Atlanta team members participated in a volunteer event with Junior Achievement. They worked with seventh-grade students at the JA Chick-Fil-A Discovery Center in downtown Atlanta. The program is designed to teach students the importance of financial literacy, and they spend the day understanding the impact of life and financial decisions.

The firm’s Atlanta office participated in VeloCity, a community movement to support Grady Health System, where all proceeds directly benefit one of Atlanta’s most critical institutions. Six of the firm’s Atlanta office employees (and two spouses) joined together for a beautiful morning walk or run through the 8,000-acre Bouckaert Farm in Chattahoochee Hills.

Team members in the Huntsville office volunteered through the Downtown Rescue Mission to load and unload pallets of food for Feed America First.

The Mobile office assisted Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Alabama and spent a full workday building window frames, painting doors and assisting with other projects that will later go into the construction of one of the Habitat for Humanity homes.

On April 21^st, the Birmingham office helped pack 20,000 meals in Rise Against Hunger’s Magic City Million Meal Challenge. Volunteers from the office helped pack enough servings to feed one student for an entire school year.

At the end of March, the Montgomery office collected dog food for the Montgomery Humane Society. Team members turned the event into a fun event for the whole staff, and the Montgomery Humane Society brought puppies for team members to play with while they learned about the Montgomery Humane Society.

Did you know that the spring isn’t just busy for accountants? It’s a busy time for animal shelters as well. The Shelby Humane Society hosted a virtual kitten and puppy shower on March 27th to show off the furry bundles of joy in their care and to highlight the important work they do. Puppies and kittens require specialized care and require formula, bottles, food, heating pads and other specific items. Birmingham’s Healthcare team purchased at least 50 items from their “baby registry” to support them.

In a collaborative effort, the firm’s Destin and Fort Walton Beach offices hosted an inter-office food drive for Sharing & Caring, which is a local food bank aimed to help Okaloosa county residents. Sharing & Caring helps provide food, as well as toiletries to individuals and families who qualify for the program.

The IT Support team spent about 30 hours of their personal time to refurbish 55 retired laptops. These computers were donated to the Sarasota Technical Users Group for distribution to Florida students with disabilities. Special thanks to Laura Sunday, who got the laptops from multiple offices and transported them to Sarasota.

Team members in the Mobile office organized a donation for Mobile SPCA, a humane society that aims to provide compassionate care, shelter, food and medical care to the animals entrusted to their care. They were able to supply them with paper towels, blankets and other highly requested items.

The firm’s Marketing team kicked off the celebration with five team members giving blood and others putting together supplies to donate to local nursing homes, a senior living center and a cancer foundation in a few of the firm’s local communities.
