Justin Headley featured in the Birmingham Business Journal’s Cybersecurity Table of Experts
Justin Headley, CISSP, CISA, CDPSE, CRISC, of the firm’s Birmingham accounting and advisory office, was recently featured as a contributor to the Birmingham Business Journal’s (BBJ) Table of Experts series in a segment about remote work and cybersecurity.
The BBJ’s Table of Experts series features expertise from local professionals about various topics that are important to business leaders in today’s world. The segment focused on the changes in the cybersecurity scene for employers and IT professionals, how criminals are capitalizing on work-from-home situations, the types of companies that can assist business owners with their remote work data needs and more.
When asked about how the remote work environment affected the cybersecurity scene, Headley said, “Prior to the pandemic, many organizations already struggled to balance time between IT operations and cybersecurity. Remote work has extended those responsibilities even further. Primarily, the attack surface available for hackers has increased as companies are now relying on employees to extend those security controls to their homes in unsupervised locations.”
Throughout the piece, Headley emphasized that employers and their IT professionals should be even more vigilant than they had been before since remote work changes the playing field. He noted that it was important for IT professionals to stay updated of any changes in the employee pool and to embrace a new perspective on providing support to the company’s personnel.
Headley joined the firm in 2016, and is a Manager in the firm’s Security, Risk and Controls Group. He has more than ten years of combined public accounting and industry experience. He is a published author and accomplished thought leader who enjoys speaking on a variety of technology and cybersecurity topics.
