Mindy Rankin Appointed to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Disaster Tax Relief Task Force

, of the firm’s Panama City accounting and advisory office, was recently appointed to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (AICPA) Disaster Tax Relief Task Force.
AICPA is the national professional organization for CPAs in the United States and has more than 428,000 members in 130 countries. The organization sets the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and technical standards for professionals in the accounting industry.
The Disaster Tax Relief Task Force’s mission is to monitor and consider tax advocacy comments related to disaster tax relief, including letters to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Treasury and Congress regarding needed guidance and legislation. They also provide tax filing relief resources to state CPA societies impacted by disasters.
Members of the task force will gather virtually six times a year. Their current agenda includes advocating for legislation that will allow the IRS to extend relief to areas as soon as a state governor declares a disaster or state of emergency, which will help improve the IRS’s authority when it comes to providing federal tax relief after major disasters.
“It is an honor to be on AICPA’s Disaster Tax Relief Task Force,” said Rankin. “After experiencing Hurricane Michael in 2018, I wanted to pay all my knowledge forward to help others. My work with AICPA’s task force allows me to advocate for changes to tax legislation that can help change the lives of those in my community. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish.”
Mindy Rankin is a Member in the firm’s Tax Division and has more than 18 years of public accounting experience. She has extensive experience assisting businesses affected by natural disasters with tax-related disaster calculations. Her primary practice area is in the construction industry, where she prepares financial statements for construction contractors that need bonding. She also has expertise providing QuickBooks training and instruction to small businesses. She resides in Lynn Haven with her husband.
