Mindy Rankin Speaks During the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Disaster Recovery Webinar
Mindy Porep Rankin, CPA, CCD, of the firm’s Panama City accounting and advisory office, recently presented in a disaster recovery webinar hosted by the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA).
FICPA is the premier professional organization that represents and advocates for Florida’s CPAs. They serve the needs of their members, support their professional standards and advocate on behalf of the accounting profession. The webinar is one of many resources and educational sessions that FICPA offers to members to help them enhance their professional capabilities and knowledge.
The webinar, Hurricanes Ian and Nicole: Tax Matters, was hosted at the end of February. There were over 150 attendees who gained a better understanding of how the recent hurricanes and natural disasters affected Florida taxes. Rankin and the other speakers also discussed the tax rules surrounding casualty losses and other disaster relief measures.
“I really enjoyed speaking in the webinar,” said Rankin. “Living on the Gulf Coast and especially after Hurricane Michael, I have seen the impact hurricanes have had on my clients and my community, and I wanted to pay it forward to equip other CPAs in Florida with valuable information they can now use to help the organizations they serve. I hope we can all better anticipate the effects on our local communities so we can better advocate for them after a disaster.”
Mindy Rankin is a Member in the firm’s Tax Division and has more than 18 years of public accounting experience. Her primary practice area is in the construction industry, where she provides reviews, compilations and assistance to contractors on percentage completion accounting. She also has extensive experience assisting businesses affected by natural disasters with tax-related disaster calculations and was recently named to the AICPA Disaster Tax Relief Task Force.
