On September 4, 2025, Mindy delivered a presentation focused on how individuals and businesses can prepare for and respond to federally declared disasters. Drawing from her extensive experience supporting clients impacted by hurricanes and her active role on the AICPA’s Disaster Tax Relief Task Force, Mindy outlined how IRS relief provisions can help taxpayers navigate deadlines and documentation during emergencies.
She shared recent legislative updates and offered practical guidance for hurricane preparedness, including reviewing insurance coverage, establishing contingency plans and vetting contractors after a disaster. Mindy also explained how qualified casualty losses can now be added to standard deductions and emphasized the importance of amending returns to claim losses from recent storms.
Throughout her presentation, Mindy encouraged attendees to stay informed, prepare early and take full advantage of available IRS resources.
“I really hope I was able to pay it forward to the victims of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina by sharing our experience from Hurricane Michael,” Mindy said. “We know exactly how it feels to try to do these difficult casualty calculations, and I hope my hurricane stories will help them in some small way.”
With more than 20 years of experience in public accounting, Mindy has developed a strong reputation for her expertise in tax planning and compliance for closely held businesses and their owners. Her work in disaster-related tax strategy has positioned her as a trusted advisor to clients facing complex recovery scenarios.
Mindy currently serves on the AICPA’s Disaster Tax Relief Task Force and the FICPA Board of Directors, contributing to policy discussions at both the state and national levels.
