Rick Blanton Contributes to CentrAL INC!

Rick Blanton, CPA, a Senior Manager in Warren Averett’s Montgomery accounting and advisory office, contributed an article to a recent issue of CentrAL INC!
CentrAL INC! is a bi-monthly publication that covers the topics, trends, events and concerns that impact businesses in Montgomery, Autauga and Elmore counties.
In his article, Choose a Career in Public Accounting, Blanton explores why today’s students should consider careers in accounting and how doing so can make a difference in the lives of others.
He mentions three specific reasons for choosing an accounting career: specializing in serving organizations or industries, problem-solving for tomorrow (providing insight and financial guidance that drives organizational success) and guiding the financial plans of organizations, which helps build stronger communities and improve quality of life.
In reference to how today’s accounting is problem-solving for tomorrow, Blanton says: “Gone are the days of just recording transactions with a pencil and paper. While accountants still file taxes and perform audits, we’re also strategic business advisors, providing insight and financial guidance to drive an organization’s success.”
Blanton explains that modern accountants invest significantly in learning what’s important to their clients and communities to work towards making those dreams a reality. He encourages young people to use their careers to make a difference in Central Alabama’s future.
Blanton joined the firm in 2010 and is a Senior Manager in the firm’s Audit Division. He specializes in planning and conducting audits for higher education, governmental and nonprofit organizations, as well as streamlining their accounting functions. He also serves in the firm’s Public Sector Practice Group and regularly leads trainings to ensure every member of the Warren Averett team understands and practices the culture of client service that the firm is known for.
