Tammie Lunceford Contributes to Birmingham Medical News
Tammie Lunceford, CMPE, CPC, of Warren Averett’s Birmingham accounting and advisory office, recently wrote an article for Birmingham Medical News discussing how changes to the split/shared visit rules will impact the use of non-physician providers (NPPs) in medical practices.

Lunceford emphasized that physician shortages and rising healthcare costs have led to an increase in NPPs working directly with patients in the hospital setting.
Over the last two years, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has changed the previous split/shared visit rules, which will affect how physicians and NPPs code their visits for billing.
“These changes are causing great disruption in the way some groups function. There will be much discussion on how to manage this change with minimal loss of revenue, but compliance should be as important as revenue,” explained Lunceford.
