Rick Blanton and Hunter Smith Speak at ALFA’s Women’s Leadership Conference

Written on April 23, 2024

Rick Blanton, CPA, and Hunter Smith, CPA, of Warren Averett’s Montgomery accounting and advisory office, recently spoke to attendees of Alabama Farmers Federation’s (ALFA’s) Women’s Leadership Conference.

Formed in 1921, ALFA is Alabama’s largest grassroots farm organization. With over 460,000 members, they provide a voice to the economic, social and educational interests of farmers statewide.

In April 2024, conference attendees gathered to learn about timely agricultural issues and programs.

Two of the firm’s Montgomery accounting professionals, Blanton and Smith, shared their expertise on tax credits, business cycles and other relevant information that could impact farms.

“We had a great time during the presentation,” said Blanton. “We wanted to be sure everyone was aware of new tax and compliance updates that will have an impact on their farms as well as changes that will impact their estate planning. Tax compliance is important; planning for the future of farm and family is a must.”

Blanton joined the firm in 2010 and is a Senior Manager in the firm’s Audit Division. He serves several family businesses and corporations in an advisory role and facilitates their use of Warren Averett’s advisors to ensure they thrive. He plans and conducts audits for higher education, governmental and nonprofit organizations.

Smith joined Warren Averett in 2016 and has more than seven years of public accounting experience. As a Manager in the firm’s Tax Division, his primary responsibilities include reviewing tax returns at the corporate, partnership and individual levels. While Smith works with clients in a variety of industries, he specializes in construction and real estate.

“I was honored to have the opportunity to present for this year’s conference attendees,” said Smith. “Knowledge about these topics—and how their farms can take advantage of the potential tax savings—can really set them up for success, and I hope the information we provided will have a lasting impact on this incredible group of farming community leaders.”
